Turkey Kabobs with Mint Raita

Ingredients

Kabobs

  • 1lb (454 g) ground Ontario turkey
  • ¼ cup (60 mL) mint, finely chopped
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) each of ground cumin and ground coriander
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • ¼ tsp (1.25 mL) chili flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 16 6-inch bamboo skewers
  • ¼ cup (60 mL) black sesame seeds (optional)

Raita

  • 1 cup (250 mL) plain yogurt
  • ½ English cucumber, skin on, grated
  • ¼ cup (60 mL) mint leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) each of ground ginger and ground cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine kabob ingredients (except sesame seeds), and gently mix together.
  • Divide the mixture into 16 portions. Form each portion around the top half of each skewer. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Cook in oven for 12-15 minutes or until fully cooked.
  • While the kabobs cook, prepare the Raita by combining yogurt, cucumber, mint leaves, ginger and cumin in a small bowl. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
  • Serve kabobs warm with Raita.
